Gov. Bruce Rauner signed legislation Tuesday creating the Illinois Route 66 Centennial Commission, which will make plans to celebrate the road's 100th anniversary in 2026. Rauner says Illinois has "a distinct place of honor" in the history of Route 66 - also known as The Mother Road - which starts in Chicago and travels to California.
